SUMMARY:HCMF: Youth Chamber Music Competition
DESCRIPTION:Harmony Chamber Music Festival: Youth Competition\nA chance for advanced student chamber music ensembles to perform in a competitive setting and receive adjudication and prizes. \nAt least one member of the ensemble must be a resident of Whatcom\, Skagit\, or Island counties. Student ensembles\, comprised of 3-6 players of strings\, winds\, brass and piano in any combination\, must submit a recording for the preliminary round by April 5th. \nSelect ensembles will be invited to perform at the live competition on May 3rd (11am-2pm). Prizes and merit awards will be given to the top participants and all ensembles will receive adjudication for their performance. DESCRIPTION:“Rusalka” is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”. Disney adapted and changed the original story to have a happy ending unlike the original. Although mostly known by American audiences as the composer of the stirring “New World Symphony”\, Antonin Dvořák was a prolific composer of opera and “Rusalka” is among the most frequently performed operas around the world. \nDvořák most popular opera\, “Rusalka”\, performed in its entirety. Sung in Czech with English Subtitles.  \nPre-concert lecture in the hall 45 minutes prior to performance.

DESCRIPTION:Harmony Chamber Music Festival: Youth Chamber Music Weekend\nA two-day event for intermediate through advanced strings and advanced winds\, brass and pianists. \nThis immersive program is designed to encourage students in the art of chamber music and foster collaboration\, creativity and musical excellence. Students will spend the weekend working intensively to hone their chamber music skills while cultivating the joy of collaborative music making. Guided by BCMS Performing Artists and WCC music faculty\, students will be placed into trios\, quartets\, quintets\, or string choirs and led in sessions focused on musicianship\, rehearsal technique and performing technique.
